Accreditation
GEO Group Australia takes great pride in ensuring that all its facilities maintain the highest possible service and operating standards.
Accreditations are an important part of this philosophy as are the accreditation processes that evaluate our facilities, measures our operating excellence and assesses the integrity and professionalism of our staff.
GEO subscribes to world best practice standards and opens its facilities to inspection and accreditation by external, independent, JASANZ accredited certification bodies.
Achieving and maintaining these accreditations promotes a culture of consistent quality and continual improvement at GEO that ensures our adherence to performance standards that are among the highest in the industry.
The accreditations currently held by The GEO Group Australia include:
International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and Australian Standards (AS)
The ISO family of standards represents world best practice and TQCS International — one of the leading third party certification bodies — independently audits all accreditations to the respective standard. Our quality management systems are built around the requirements of the international best practice quality standard ISO 9001:2008, while our environmental management systems are built around the requirements of ISO 14001:2004. GEO’s facilities in Australia were the first prisons in the country to receive these international accreditations. Our occupational health and safety systems are built around Australian best practice standard AS 4801:2001. GEO’s facilities were the first prisons in Australia to receive this accreditation.
Food Safety (HACCP)
The hazard analysis critical control point system (HACCP) is a systematic methodology to control hazards in a process by applying a two-part technique: first, an analysis that identifies hazards, the severity and likelihood of occurrence; and second, identification of critical points where the hazards may be controlled, and the monitoring criteria to ensure that controls are working effectively. The HACCP plan used in GEO’s food preparation processes is based on seven principles identified in the Codex Guidelines for the Application of Hazard System adopted by the 20th Session of the Joint Food and Agricultural Organisation and World Health Organisation Codex Alimentarius Commission. Our food safety programs at the relevant GEO facilities are also independently audited and certified by TQCS International.
Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS)
ACHS accreditation is the ‘gold standard’ for healthcare. It measures efficiency of health services delivery and assures stakeholders that GEO has undertaken a rigorous process of external peer review to meet world-class standards for patient care. GEO has held accreditation with ACHS since 1999 and is accredited through to September 2015.
