Community Involvement

GEO takes an active corporate citizenship role within each community we operate in. Each year, we support a variety of community development projects, local organisations and charities. Through these relationships GEO provides numerous economic and community enrichment possibilities that have become invaluable within the communities we serve.

GEO invests over $25 million dollars annually in each facility’s local community comprising wages, payments to local contractors and suppliers, taxes and rates, and donations to local community organisations and charities.

Investing in regional economies helps stimulate and support consumer spending, business enterprises and regional development strategies.

Community service is another aspect of GEO’s community involvement. Prisoner work crews are involved in a wide range of activities including park beautification, maintenance of streetscapes and community facilities as well as disaster recovery. GEO provides over 45,000 hours of community work between the Junee and Fulham correctional centres each year.

GEO’s community activities are administered through a consultative committee within each facility, bringing members of the local community into decision making and planning and ensuring the community gets the help it views as desirable. By managing charitable programs locally GEO has the ability to support each local community and provide small local organisations with grants, fundraising and volunteer efforts.
